Sealing and Bearing Solutions for the Oil and Gas Industry

PTFE Sealing Solutions for the Oil & Gas Industry

Spring Energized Teflon PTFE SealsAdvanced EMC Technologies offers a broad range of oilfield seal and bearing solutions for the Oil & Gas industry designed to provide reliable sealing in all applications, including HPHT and UHPHT, in chemically hostile environments where optimum performance is critical. Our options include PTFE static and dynamic seals, Spring Energized PTFE Seals, Chevron Packing, PTFE-UHMW FPSO seals, and PTFE-UHMW Cryogenic Seals for LNG service.

Oil and Gas Seal Factors

Three key factors can affect oil and gas seal choices: temperatures, pressure issues, and media.

Temperature is one of the main factors for oil and gas sealing solutions. High-temperature steam can make seals brittle, while temperatures below gas transition temperature also make seals brittle and begin to crack. PTFE jackets on spring-energized seals function from -450°F to 500°F.

Pressures between 1,500psi and 15,000 psi are typical in the oil and gas industry. Some applications may even reach pressures of 25,000 psi. PTFE spring-energized seals offer optimum sealing solutions for both low-pressure and high-pressure environments.

Oil and gas are exposed to chemically aggressive media. However, PTFE spring energized seals are resistant to even the most chemically aggressive materials encountered in the oil and gas industry. Some of the chemicals these seals may be exposed to include:

  • Hydrogen Sulfide
  • Aromatic Hydrocarbons
  • Amines
  • Super Critical CO2
  • Methanol

In addition to extreme temperatures, chemically aggressive materials, and extreme pressures, oil and gas sealing solutions must have toughness, hardness, and electrical insulation. Oil and gas seals should be flame resistant and survive in sour gas environments.

We offer PTFE, PEEK, and Hytrel solutions where moderate to high-pressure applications require backup rings.

Standard and special solutions cover a wide range of applications for oilfield seals and bearings, including:

    • Well Head Connectors
    • Subsea Connectors
    • Swivel Stack Seals
    • Top Drive Units
    • Loading Swivels
    • Valves
    • Couplings
    • Logging Tools
    • Rotary Drill Bits
    • Anti-Blow Out Seals
