Hytrel Seals from Advanced EMC Technologies

Hytrel©, a property of Dupont, is a TPC-ET thermoplastic polyester elastomer with good aging properties at high temperatures. It combines good resilience, temperature, and chemical resistance with strength and durability. Hytrel can be used as sealing elements such as wipers, backup rings, and road seals pre-loaded with elastomer O-rings.

Hytrel is a versatile thermoplastic elastomer resin that can flex in multiple directions, cycle after cycle, long after rubber breaks. Depending on the polymer type, it is processed between 175°C and 260°C. However, all grads have good melt stability and a sharp melting point.

Hytrel has a Shore D hardness range from 30 to 80, which helps to bridge the mechanical performance of rubbers and thermoplastics. The properties can be further tuned for specific applications by adding concentrates or pigments. Shore D hardness relates to measurable and directly useful parameters such as flexural modulus, solvent resistance, impact behavior, and high and low-temperature stress-strain.

This material’s high viscosity grade is used in automotive parts, cables, and wires. This grade has a high melt strength that developers use for extrusion and blow molding applications.
